About The Artist
Diane Tertin (me/artist) grew up in southwest Wisconsin on a dairy farm. I’ve always been an animal lover and enjoyed growing up in the country. I still live in the country not far from where I grew up. Never living in a city/town I’ve always enjoyed the outdoors. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in and creating art. My mother is very artistic and I believe I’ve inherited my talent from her. My husband does all the matting and framing for my paintings. He also rough cuts the wood that I turn into bowls and other pieces.
I’ve published numerous originals into limited edition lithographs, with small editions, usually 300. I attend area art shows extensively. Over the years I have displayed in various galleries in my area. In the past 5 years or so I’ve learned to turn wood on the lathe, which is a great way to express myself in a different way than two dimensional art.
Pointillism is the technique I use with the watercolor and pen & ink combined. The airbrush is a wonderful addition because it creates such a smooth transition between colors. I generally use it in the background of the paintings, although I have used it for detail as well. Surrealism has always intrigued me. It gives the observer an opportunity to see a particular piece with different eyes than perhaps someone else would because of how you personally relate to the picture. Abstract paintings as well, give the mind an opportunity to create it’s own emotion with a piece. I enjoy creating work that activates thoughts and emotions instead of just “easy to look at” work.
As a hobbie I attend auctions and buy antique furniture that needs some work. My husband is a carpenter and helps with the authentic repair of pieces, doing all the handwork needed to fix whatever needs fixing. I do all the refinishing if needed. I love old pieces. They have much more quality and personality then what you buy in a store today.
Thank you for visiting my sight and I always welcome comments and suggestions. Diane K. Tertin
